How to Spot Fake Leather

Leather is often considered a staple in men's and women's fashion. It is not always easy, however, to distinguish between faux leather and real leather. It can be quite frustrating to purchase looks like a genuine leather vest, only to later realize it is actually synthetic. Here is some information to help you distinguish between Faux and Real leather.

The main differences between real and faux leather are the quality and durability. Spotting the difference between faux and real protected leather can be difficult because they can look very similar. There are several techniques that are used to identify faux leather. Look at the Label

I know you're thinking duh why wouldn't I look at the label first. Looking at the label on your product is a for sure easy way to identify the type of leather. When it's real leather it would proudly say so. Other products will say made from "man made materials" which means it not real leather.

Examine the Pores

When making a leather purchase, closely examine the pores of the fabric. Faux leather will have pores that are in a consistent pattern, while real leather will have inconsistently placed pores. Inspect the Edges

Look at the edges of the garment or furniture. Faux leather products will have a perfect-looking edge that feels foamy or plastic. Authentic leather will have a rough-around-the-edges look. Smell the Item

I bet you're thinking, Veeh that's just weird but trust me it helps. Real leather has a very distinct smell that can't be replicated by synthetic materials. Try going to a department store and smell items that are real leather and synthetic leather to get yourself familiar with the scent.

Press into the leather, looking for creases and wrinkles.

Real leather will wrinkly under the tough, just like real skin. Synthetic materials usually just depress down under your finger, retaining rigidity and shape.

I really hope that these tips help you guys. Let me know what I should post about next
